car help
« on: March 18, 2008, 05:00:36 PM »
I totalled my new Saturn this morning. A kid tried to drive across the road in front of me and did so when I was within 75 feet of him, and I slammed into the side of his Jeep Cherokee. this smashed my car and now my wife and i are nursing a lot of soreness and aches.

i am WAY pissed off because this is going to be annoying and i mist likely won't get full value for my car, as these things usually go.

my question for you guys is, since they dont make my saturn ion anymore, i need a cheap, good on gas car for my wife to drive and that i won't be embarrassed to drive to the gun shop in.

Embarrassed to drive?  Are you serious?

The newest vehicle I own is a 96.......

Am I embarrassed to be seen driving my paid for, fully depreciated old truck?  Hell no......I look at all those new ones and know almost all of them are financed...and the owners are usually one pay check away from the repo man.....

I hope you don't take this wrong, but your vanity is likely to cost you a lot of money......

As far as not getting full value for your car, why not?

Your insurance should pay current market value for your car.  If they don't then ask them to replace it with another car.

Cars are a depreciating asset......they lose value from the time you buy them until you sell them.......

Never be embarrassed by what you have or don't have.....but rather be embarrassed by the note you hold on it.......

Since vanity is not an issue,   ;)  a BMW Z4 should fill the bill.   ;D

Hey, make points with your wife and buy the car SHE wants. You did say it was for her. If it is too girlie for you to go to the gunshop in, drive that jeep. I drive a '78 GMC 4 wheel dr. pickup and am not ashamed of it. I'll bet your jeep would look almost new up beside it.

with the cost of fuel today and what it is going to cost tommorrow, i would look at a bicycle or a motorcycle.
i am paying more in gasoline than i am for my mortgage.  the house is for sale and if it sells i am moving as close as i can to work.   if i have my way, they are going to get 1/10th of what they are gouging me for now.

oh i agree, it's just that they're not the saturns i know and love...they arent made in tennessee by the factory full of happy folks who own the factory and have a reason to do a good job. they're made in europe and don't have the plastic body that looks good forever and shrugs off the bumps and scratches.

plus they added a good 5 grand to the prices with the new styled compact.

so i am not sure what i want now. i like the VW Rabbit, the new one. I like the Mazdas and the Pontiac g6...

When I'm not using my full size van for work, I drive my wife's Honda Civic. Made here in Ohio, yea yea I know, company's from Japan. But I've shot with alot of the guys that work for Honda. As far as looking funny, it's my cash filling the tank, not my looks. At just under 6' and 245lds. and 52 years old, it's not the most pleasant vehicle for my to get in and out of. But for the 3 or 4 times a week I might drive it, I can suffer. Over 30 mpg on the highway, probably around 22-25 for city. Never checked city mileage, but I'm sure I'm close.(depends on if my wife drives, or me)   gypsyman
