Bead and notch sights for the SRH ??
« on: March 31, 2008, 01:01:05 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with the Ruger gold bead and v-notch sights for the Super Redhawk ?   I found them on their website, looks interesting for hunting.  I really don't want to put optics on this revolver , thats why I have the Encore.  Thanks for your input.

I used that sight set up on a Redhawk about 15 years ago.  I found it pretty quick and accurate.  I took some deer out to 75 yards with that set up.  I sold the gun long ago and now I scope most everythingdue to fading eyesight.  Its a fairly inexpensive set up.  You should give it a try to see if you like it.

Thanks , doulos ....your right , according to the Ruger website , its 16 bucks ?  if I understood it right.    Think I will try it , Is it an easy change out ?  It appears the rear blade is just a matter of sliding the old one out and replacing it.  The front  ,however , appears like it may have to be drifted out of the dovetail ??......I don't own any brass punches....Thanks again,  Mike

I, too, had it on a Redhawk and loved it. Traded the Redhawk for a Bisley, and sent the Bisley to Reeder Custom Guns to have it done to it. I think it's a terrific sight.

Thanks for the input , Griz ,   I just realize though , after going to the Ruger site to order....they're listed under the Redhawk and not the Super Redhawk accessories ....Will the .R Hawk sites fit the  SRH  ?? Not sure I wanted to go "custom " ,  I was hoping to go cheap..case I didn't care for them.

irold, I did not have a Super Redhawk.  If I remember correctly I changed it out myself with just directions from my owners manual. I believe there is a pin on the front of a Redhawk sight you depress to remove the blade.  But I  cant remember for sure.

You're right. It's a piece of cake on the Redhawk. Only takes a couple of minutes. Sorry I don't know anything about the Super Redhawk. It wasn't cheap to have it done to the Bisley, but I do think it was well worth it.

I put a set of these on my Redhawk and took them right back off, bead is too small for my eyes to see plainly? I'm 60 this August. On a Redhawk, just push the pin on the front of the sight, the rear is simply a matter of lining up the bump with the notch, making sure you control the spring inside the rear sight?
Not rocket science just carefully examine your sights thoroughly before attempting this task. Most things on Rugers are pretty straight forward. If in doubt, ask questions here or on Ruger.com.

Irold, i went to the ruger site to check it out and they say NOT for the super redhawk. But a bead front with a rear peep would be great for hunting if you dont want to scope it

I just bought a set of Marble fiber optic front sights at Midway usa #329691 orange for day use and #329877 green for early mourning and dusk or for hunting in the dark pines we have.Ruger made it simple to change the front sights with the spring plunger system they have on the super red hawks. I also ordered the rear peep sight from www.oneraggedhole.com   This is for my new SRH 454 , i had this years ago on a ruger SBH in 44 and its just great. I have always favored peep sights over iron sights as they have always improved the accuracy for me. Anyone thinking about usingthe peep sights on there revolver should give them a try, I highly reccommend them . Later Tanoose

Thanks , Tanoose , good stuff on that site.   Matter of fact , believe I'll order one too.  I can use it with a factory front blade ? Says on the site they come with two different peeps....one for close work and one for longer ranges.  We'll see how they work for me.

I'm glad to hear the OneRaggedHole peep sights worked for you. They really drove me crazy, and that's a pretty short drive! Never could adjust to them. But then, no guts, no glory. Had to try 'em. If I'm still around in another 10 years, I might try them again. By then I'll have forgotten if I liked them or not!  :o
