.35 rem question for quickdtoo

quickdtoo - I have read on the board that you have a .357 mag re-chambered to .35 Remington , my question is basically is how do you like it? I read your range report and noticed that it was shot with cast only, have you also shot jacketed with it, and what were the results? I am a big fan of the .35 and I have a remington 760 and a marlin 336 chambered in it and am all set up to reload it so I thought a .35 handi barrel would be a nice addition so I thought I would ask your opinion  -  Thanks, Joe

Joe,

I love it, in fact, I just converted it to an extractor, it's the test mule for the ejector to extractor conversion in the FAQs. I've never shot jacketed ammo in it as a 35 Rem, before the rechamber, it was a 357Maxi, it shot Dan Wesson factory ammo real well then tho, right at 1" at 100yds. I do have plans to test some more ammo in it, I have the 1982 Layne Simpson Handloader magazine article on hot 35 Rem loads that I'd love to try, just have had too many other irons in the fire to get to it. But I have lots of other Handis and Ultras to shoot jakceted ammo in, just figured the 35 Rem was a natural for large meplat cast bullets. ;D MSP Ret has a 35 Rem Handi, in fact his desire for the rechamber was my inspiration, I just did mine before he got around to it.  ;)

Thanks Tim - I think I might have to give it a try - and keep us posted if you get a chance to shoot some jacketed through it I would be curious to know how it works out but I agree the big flat hardcasts are probably all I would ever need!

I have my Dads old marlin 336rc in  35 rem and I would not trade it for nothing.  it may not have the range of more then 200 yards or so but it will put a bear or deer down in a heartbeat.  the .35 rem is a good cartridge.  have fun and work up a good load for it.  It may not reach out and touch them but within their range it will do the job with no problem   very accurate.     cavebear of the Uwharrie mountains said that.
