Primers
« on: March 28, 2008, 11:50:50 AM »
Hello,

Anyone have any comment about CCI Benchrest primers?

I can't seem to find Federal Benchrest.

Thanks,

Are you talking small rifle or large rifle primers? I have lots of CCI BR4 primers and find them a good primer that takes high pressure. I also have a large supply of the Remington 7 1/2 primers and prefer them over the CCI's but I guess that is a personal choice. I believe the Federals are 205M that people use in the bench rest circle. I have not used Federals too much. I do not like their packaging for one, they usually cost more than the Remington 7 1/2 and the cups are not as thick as the CCI or the Remington primers. One advantage the Federals have is that if you have a weak firing pin spring, they maybe more reliable than a Remington or CCI since they have a thinner cup. I am talking all small rifle primers, not much experience in the large rifle primers, but I do know that CCI makes a BR2 primer for the large rifle.

I've used CCI BR4 & BR2 primers as well as Federal 210M and 215M primers.  They all work fine.  For small rifle primers, though, my preference is the Remington bench rest primers.

I load far more Rem. 7 1/2 primers in rounds that I`m trying to get best accuracy out of than any other primer. Next is the Fed 205m and then the BR4`s. In most rounds it doesn`t seem to make alot of difference, but there are some that will like 1 of these primers better than another. The only way to know which is best is to try them all in that round, and in that load.
