45-75 WCF?
« on: June 05, 2008, 03:14:17 PM »
My Father has a 1876 win in exellent shape that he happened into from my Great Uncle back in the 1960's. He has never fired it but it has seen much use prior to him becoming the owner.  My father, now 78 years old mentioned to me "I'd like to try that rifle out"  and I just happened to come across a set of LEE dies in 45-75 for next to nothing.

I've never loaded black powder ammo before, I believe I can make brass from 348 Win. I'd appreciate any advice as to primer, powder, and brass forming that might be out there.

Thanks

I bought Starline brass made from 50-95's formed to 45-75 Win with the rim trimmed to spec. They worked very well. I got the brass at Buffalo Arms. I shoot a Uberti repro and it has a much shorter neck than the standard 45-75 Winchester, even so 75 gr of BP FILLS the case to the top and has to be compressed to get the bullet in. I would suggest that if the gun is an original that you have it checked out by a competent gunsmith before you fire it...........................it's to valuable to mess up.

Good luck
