Help planning CO elk hunt

I would like to plan an elk hunt in an OTC area in Colorado for 2008. I know that I should have planned ahead a bit earlier, but would like any help and advice about where to start. It would be for two guys with rifles. This may be our only chance to do an elk hunt so the cost is much of a consideration. We would like a fully guided hunt. I reckon quantity would trump quality of elk as we are not extremely concerned with the trophy size as much as having the best opportunity at getting a shot at a decent elk. Also, we are not looking for a high fenced ranch. We would prefer packing in on horses, but not a must. Are there any recommendations as far as outfitters or areas or where to start. Thanks.

With no preference points you may struggle to draw a first season rifle tag in some of the better units.  Most of Colorado is managed for Quantity not Quality.  Also most good outfitters will have booked their first and second seasons for 2008 by now, especially the ones with good private land.  Those later seasons can be hit or miss, and often are very slim pickings.

there are always leftover BULL tags in area 7-8 that can be bought OTC I always hunt 7 shot a few nice elk out of there.

I had real good luck hunting NE of Streamboat.  But we walked in many miles with wheelbarrows last time.

Last several years I've hunted on private land in Bearlodge Mts. of Wyoming.  Trespass fee is getting steeper each year.

This year I'm looking into a large acreage high fence ranch in western Nebraska.  Cost will about the same since non-resident license and trespass fee are not factors.

Where were those pictures taken?  Uncompahgre?  Certainly not NE of Steamboat since there are no ponderosa pine forests there.  Not in the Steamboat I grew up in anyways.
