Weekend Cannon Outing
« on: April 14, 2008, 02:19:04 PM »
A couple of my machine gun buddies and I went shooting yesterday and I decided to take along a cannon barrel.  I built a golf ball barrel and a sled base for it and we were off to the range yesterday.  The barrel has no sights so I used the "South African" cannon sighting method, thanks to Double D.  The first two shots were to check the flight paths of golf balls and with 1.5 oz. of FFg I found that they travel straight for about 250 feet and then curved sharply to the right.  I think this is due to ball weight although I'm not certain.  Next, I thought I would give my one and only 1 lb. lead ball a try. I loaded the barrel with 1.5 oz. FFg and with the target at approximately 175 feet, sighted over barrel and.........

It had to be LUCK or at least a good bit of it.   Shot No.4 was a miss.  Shot No.5 was at a large coffee can at about 100 feet and a hit.  Shot No. 6 was at the orange jug pictured below at about 100 feet.   Shot No.7 was at a rock at about 200 feet and I couldn't tell if it was a hit or miss.  Overall it was a great day, good weather and alot of fun.   Dom

Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
