Shotgun Optics

I've been wanting to put a red dot scope on my mossberg 935. Recently I've been eyeing the bushnell trophy series and some different true-glo models. My question is to anyone that has experience with optics on a shotgun cause I have none. Was curious if anyone has had any of these models or another scope that could take the beating from a 3 1/2 inch 12 ga.

Outside of slug guns there is no reason to put a scope on a shotgun.  The shotgun scope market is driven almost entirely by magazines and directed at people who spend more time watching hunting TV shows than actually hunting.

I have had a great deal of success using the Mueller Multishot on my combo guns all of which have a 12 ga shotgun which I do shot 3 inch shells from.

The Mueller takes the recoil with out an issue and I like the Mueller multipurpose cross hair http://www.muelleroptics.com/products/MU2732IGR.html

Thanks doug...im looking more for the smaller, low profile red dot scopes though. Just looking at them they seem like they wouldn't hold up to the abuse.

Its a matter of personal preference...As far as the little slam there about being an "armchair sportsman", LOL, not in the least. I couldn't tell you one turkey hunter on TV and what they use if any as far as optics. In fact I've only seen one guy use optics on a turkey gun, Jim Clay, who is from the winchester area and I've met on a couple occasions. Nothing to do with him or any advertising, just a rig I wanted to try. Out of 6 shotguns I have, why not try one on the gun thats already drilled and tapped and never used for wingshooting?

If your question is not being driving by consumer exposure as you claim, then it must be driven by friends of yours.  Ask them what they use. 

As to question of why not? 
1) It won't help kill turkeys
2) Cost
3) It could fog, fall off target, break, run out of batteries, etc...
4) A vent rib never has any of the problems in #4
5) Occasionally strange things happen.  Sometimes a second shot is required.  Sometimes that second shot is flying or running fast. 

It's your gun of course.  You could put a bowling ball on the end of your barrel for all I care.  I'm just giving my thoughts on shotgun scopes and why they are suddenly in the field.

After seein what I was gettin back on taxes decided to spend the money and get the Bushnell Holosight and be responsible with the rest. ;-) Anyone have any personal experience with these? Curious to hear any first hand info.
