270 Handi
« on: July 17, 2008, 03:11:20 PM »
Good evening fellows. I was wondering if any of ya'll who had a 270 barrel how do you like it? Does it shoot pretty good? Have any on game reports? I think i might have to try the new plant in New York out in a few weeks. I had some bad luck with a Savage 110 270 when i was a teenager but I want to try another 270 and see if i have any better luck. So ya'll let me know what you think. Thanks

One of my favorite Handi's, just over one inch groups........one I'll never sell. 270 one of, if not the best, all around calibers for North America.........

I like mine well enough that I have 2  ;D , one for shooting the 90g Varmint bullets and the other for the 130g stuff . Both are 1" or less shooters every time I take them out .

Get one you will be more than pleased .

My wife's .270 is a Rem 700, and she has shot chucks with 90 gr. hollow points at 440 yards.  It is a tack driver with her behind the wheel.  But........my Handi 7mm-08 is catching up real quick.  I'm still learning it, but it drives tacks also.  It's just another caliber option for you.  Personally, I'm more comfortable with the 7mm-08.  Don't ask me to explain that, I couldn't tell you.  I guess it is because I have shot the .308 for years with much greater sucess and accuracy than I have had with the other parent cartridge, the '06.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

I bought my oldest son one 7 years ago.  He never cared much for it so I kinda inherited it.  He has layed claim to my .303 >:(.  Well anyway that rifle shoots great.  I use a 150 grn round nose over a max load of RE15 and that little rifle will shoot!  Chronied her at 2950 fps, no pressure signs and a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards.  I am happy.  I've begun a new "long range" load with Hornady 140 grn SST's, so far the most consistant is a 1 inch group at 2875 fps.

The only problem I have ever had was the fired cartridges would stick in the chamber.  A little "Jeweler's Rouge" and a hand drill later no problems.  I even put a "Mannlicher" (squire) forend on her to spiff her up.  All in all I would buy another one.  Good luck to you.
