DPMS 6.5 Creedmoor?
« on: April 10, 2008, 05:11:04 PM »
I have never owned a Military type weapon before and I am seriously considering this one. I would love to hear any pros or cons to this gun.
I checked my local gun store and they had never heard of it and thought I was nuts till I told them to look on DPMS's web sight.
I love the look of that long slim bullet in that fat case.
Any help would be appreciated.

338JDJ - I would find yourself another gunshop buddy, the DPMS rifles are supposed to be pretty good and pretty popular, and the 6.5 Creedmoor has developed a reputation for accuracy.  I think what you like about the appearance of this round is that long pencil shaped 6.5mm bullet - that's what I like about the 6.5 Swede and the 260.

I don't know the actual dimensional differences between the 6.5 Creedmoor, the 6.8 Grendel (other than bore diameter) or whatever it was called before they thought to make it into a military cartridge, the 6.5mm Swede and the 260.

I was looking at the DPMS line of rifles and might have left the shop with one except that I believe it was in 308 caliber - I wuz lookin' fer a 260..........

I believe the DPMS rifles are quality made.  I won't purchase a Colt rifle since Colt feels the American public doesn't need to own a rifle like the M16/AR-15.  JMTCW.  Mikey.

Thanks alot. I am kinda torn between the .223 and the 6.5 creedmoor because a few reasons. I can buy 223 ammo in surplus. I know its accurate, but the 6.5 just does a little more for me. Longer rangers I think the BC will make a difference with the 6.5 and I like the heavier bullets. I know that dpms makes a quality gun, have done my homework on that one. I checked the other day and the gun shop and they told me that the 6.5 would not be available for another 6 mths. I really hate waiting when I got the Itch this bad. I was just trying to find any input on here whether or not the difference between the 223 and the 6.5 is worth the wait.

338JDJ - get the 223 now and then find a 6.5 Creedmoor upper later when parts, ammo and/or reloading components are available.  I start getting a lump in my throat when I think of a DPMS in 260.  Mikey.

338 - call'em and find out.  Hey, you're going to spend a bunch fo $ for one of their products and before you do that you should know if the different uppers are interchangeable.  That is a ligitimate request.  Mikey.
