Dan Wessons and firelapping
« on: April 12, 2008, 04:53:06 PM »
Veral, how do the Dan Wesson pistols respond to firelapping with the nut on the end of the barrel.  I really like firelapping all my cast bullet pistols.

Thanks.

DW's lap out just fine.  You'll find with push through slugs that the muzzle gets choked a bit more than the forcing cone on these, which happens because the muzzle nut is shorter than the frame threads.  Being shorter, the same tension on both puts more crush from the V threads with the narrow muzzle nut.  I suspect this has more to do with the proclaimed superior accuracy of DW's  than the stretched barrel which has been given all the credit.  Stretching a thin barrel isn't likely to make it much less prone to vibration than a solid short tube which, unlike a rifle barrel,as very little spring or whip in it.
