I've heard they're coming out with the Icon Plus which will be like the Icon but with a longer action.  The initial chambering will be for the 308 TC Supermag.  This rimless case will have a head diameter of 0.473 inches, will have a 17' 30" degree shoulder and will be 2.490 inches in length.  With T/C's super powder that no one can buy for reloading, this round promises to give about 100 fps more velocity than the standard 30/06 round.

It should be a real winner.

Oh, I almost forgot, the 358 TC is coming for the standard Icon.

I think most if not all of T/C's "new" calibers; along with Marlin's, will become dust in the wind. If you can't get the powder and reload that cuts out many potential buyers from the git go. Also; with very limited loadings and no real need to fill I don't think they'll be around long. I handled an Icon  and thought it was nice; but not nice enough for the price. Also a little heavy.

I have hear that some Contenders barrels will be discontinued. The biggest one is no more Black power muzzle loaders for the G2. Thompson/Center is frist a manufacturing company and if people don't buy a barrel they don't make any more.

What is a 358TC and will it be offered in an Encore barrel?

I guess I was being too subtle in my sarcasm.  Jrkrk asked if there were "rumors" and I was starting the rumor.

I guess I will explain it.  The 30 TC is in size and shape very much like the 308 Winchester.  It's touted as being better than the 308 Winchester but the only way that can be is because it's loaded with a powder not available to handloaders.  There is no reason for the 30 TC; it should never have been born and it will die.  Years ago there was a cartridge based on the 308 Winchester case called the 358 Winchester that really was and is a good cartridge and should have done much better than it did.  Despite all the 358 Winchester had going for it, it never became popular and is now considered obsolete.  Since T/C is apparently currently in the business of doing stupid things, I thought they should come out with a 358 TC; it would make a WHOLE lot more sense than the 30 TC but probably wouldn't do any better.  If you want a 358 TC just take a 30 TC case and neck it up to .35 caliber.

As for the "Icon Plus" and the 30 TC Supermag, well that was a joke as well.  If you compare cartridge dimensions, you'll find that the 30 TC Supermag bears a lot of resemblance to the 30/06 Springfield cartridge.

T/C isn't the only firearms company doing dumb things to boost sales. They may do better to lighten up the Icon and offer the short action as a 20" barreled carbine and do some dressing up on the Encore, like maybe checkering and a schnoeble forend again. Or maybe an adjustable trigger assembly. All these "new calibers" ---I'm afraid most won't make the long haul.

I also read and i think it was on Jim Shockeys website that he just finished a hunt somewhere and was headed someplace else to film a commercial for T/C's new gun. I guess T/C has another new muzzleloader coming out for 2008!

Well, T/C would have to know by now that shooters think the Encore trigger as it comes from the factory is less than ideal.  The Contender and Encore would have to be close to their biggest money makers; their R&D dollars might be better spent on improving their proven design than in coming up with another bolt action that isn't that accurate, is too expensive and doesn't distinguish itself much from what is already available.

Another thing; it would be nice if an ejector was available again for the Encore and Contender.  They used to be before the fire.

T/C also used to make a single shot rifle called the TCR rifle.  It looked much more traditional than the Encore and Contender and had interchangeable barrels.  I had their catalog and was going to buy one only to find out that they had just stopped making it.  I would rather have one of those than their Icon.

If I was interested in a cartridge with more UMMPFH than the .308/30-06 I'd just buy a readily available 300WSM. I sure wouldn't want a short-lived 308T/C Super Duper!  ;D

I doubt it.

Savage has "been playing" with smokeless ML for at least 7 or 8 years now. I will have to say that they are the real deal. I love mine.

The only way smokeless ML can get any better is if TC jumps in.   :D :D

I would hope they would but I don't think they are interested as of now.

The TCR was a great rifle and you don't see too many used ones for resale. People that have them seem to be hanging on to them.
I think T/C could benefit by bringing the TCR back into production and utilize some modern technology that wasn't available back when it was discontinued like synthetic or laminate stocks.

According to their website they made some minor changes to the Pro-Hunter (called the Endeavor) by improving the breech plug removal and added more to the butt-stock to absorb recoil,,,but I didn't see anything about improving that dang trigger!

Heck all I want is a Pro-Hunter muzzleloader package in blue steel with the Hardwoods camo stocks.
Is that too much to ask. I don't want to buy it with walnut only to go out and have to buy the Hardwoods camo stocks separately. The gun's price is kinda salty to being with.

I think I'll call them and see if I can order one the way I want it.

You can get one that way. The only thing is the stock has the recoil system in it. I have seen many new ones for sale this way its just hard to find them.

they must be scarce because all I can find so far is stainless steel with the hardwood camo stock.

I did see a wood camo laminate stock set up that i liked a lot, but it was a stainless gun too.

I prefer blue steel

If you can't find one you can order one from T/C. I would also look into getting the stainless one and have it dipped in Black Ice coating and this would give you a weather proof gun and it would be much easier to clean. Also you wouldn't have to oil it. http://www.blackicecoatings.com/
