New breech plug tool for Huntsman
« on: March 27, 2008, 07:32:11 AM »
With all the great machinists and expertise on this site, I hesitated to post my simple tool.  However, here it is for those like me who lost theirs.

3/16x3/4 woodruff key
3/8x2 union

File a 1/8 deep slot across the face of the union, just wide enough to drive the key into.  Solder or JB weld into place.

Bobby

PS: Posted over in the Centerfire section, just though I'd drop it here in the right place.

revbc,

That looks like a good easy set-up. I was looking for a easy fix about 5 years ago, after using the provided knuckle buster I knew there had to be a better way. I made 6 flats on the top half of the standard wrench only deep enough to use an old 13/16" spark plug wrench. A little cold blue on the bare metal and I was in business. This allowed me to use a short extension and socket wrench to clear the scope, yet allows me to also use the tool as supplied in the field or emergencies. The tool still is basically the same shape and has no sharp edges. The pictures can tell the story better than I can.

Yes sir..........all great ideas.  Mine fits those kindred souls (usually past 50) that MISPLACED (they never lose anything) their beloved factory tool ::)  LOL
