Savage Long Action 116FCSS
« on: April 13, 2008, 06:04:52 AM »
Here's a good one:

I purchased a Savage 116 in 270 win and a Burris Fullfield2  3-9-40 scope, with what are suppose to be matching 2 piece Weaver bases and Millett Rings. The problem is the tube of the Fullfield2 is not long enough to match up with were the rings mount on the bases. In other words, the rings are aligning with the were the front bell of the scope starts to expand and at the rear were the eye piece starts to expand. The total distance between these two points on the scope is about 5 5/8 inches. The way the current rings sit, I need a scope with about 7 inches.

I'm thinking a one piece base would do the trick but can't get enough info on line to pinpoint which once piece base & rings will work on this long action. Any ideas or anyone run into this problem? I know I can fix the problem with a differant scope but I really want to mount this Burris scope.

Thanks

Talley makes lightweight one piece extended rings for the 116.

Here's what my setup looks like.  Same rifle (in '06 instead of .270) and same scope.  The rings were on the rifle when I bought it used.

Weaver offers an extension base (#402).  They also list a one piece base (#413).

Thanks for all the help on this one. I finally went the single piece mount, which I really did not want to do. But its seems it was the only way to solve the problem. Can't believe I called up Burris and their Techs could not give me a solid answer. This was even more hard to believe.
