Shot 45-70 yesterday with buffalo bore 430s
« on: April 13, 2008, 06:52:11 AM »
I have always thought about getting a handi in 45-70 and finally got to shoot one yesterday. We shot buffalo bore 430s out of it and I cannot believe how tame it was. One time it did throw the action open prematurely though. I am not big on shooting heavy loads in cast because I am not hunting african game, so I think buffalo bore is an over kill for anything I hunt. Very nice gun and cannot wait to pick one up.

If you get your Handi .45-70, try Hornady's 325 gr. LEs.  I think you and your rifle will like them.  Both my rifle and I are happy with them, and they're fine for the deer and black bear we hunt.  I'd like to see a greater variety of pointed .45-70 factory ammo available.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

CR

Get one you'll love it , if you hand load you can tame it way down too , as for pointed bullets i still like the big fat wide nose 525 Piledrivers , kinda like throwing a pick-up out there .  ;D

You guys need to re-read his post.  He already got one and shot it.

BTW, I like the big bullets too.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

No, I believe his post read (I have always thought about getting a handi in 45-70 and finally got to shoot one yesterday.). It didn't say he owns one.
