Super Contender?
« on: April 11, 2008, 10:53:25 PM »
Guys, what's the difference between a t/c contender and a super contender?  Is it just barrel length?  A friend offered me a 30/30 14" super contender, magna-port, Leupold rings and base, Simmions 2x scope, sling, and holster for $399.  Deal or no deal?

Thanks

If in fact it is the complete Contender, that is a good price. And if the barrel is custom it is even a better deal

Yes that's a good price and if it's what you want you should jump on the deal. Super 14" was just an appellation applied to many 14" barrels at one time. It was not on all 14" barrels as I recall and not on those with the Hunter muzzle brake either. Nothing special about it that I can recall. I'm sure that if you decide you don't want the .30-30 barrel you'll be able to sell it or trade it for what you do want here on the Classifieds.

Once upon a long time ago that's about what a new Contender ran but now they are higher and with the extras this one comes with that makes it a good deal for you as a used gun assuming decent condition.

That .30-30 is an especially good deal if it's an older, 6-groove barrel.

IF that barrel truly has a magnaport, that makes the deal even sweeter.  I have a 7x30 waters with the magnaport and it is a sweet shooter.  Lots of blast, but not much recoil.   For $400, I would grab it in a second, IF in good condition.
