hornet range report
« on: April 13, 2008, 10:46:13 AM »
A couple of weeks ago, one of My clients and I were talking and he said that he had a Hornet that he had bought for his son but his son didn't like to shoot it. We worked out a very fair price and it was mine. I put a Nikon 3x9x40 pro staff that I had hanging around on her. I took her to the range today in less than ideal conditions, the wind was gusting to 20 mph but at least it was right in my face.  The guy that I got the gun from had lots of ammo for it, Nosler 40gr bt, Hornady 35gr Bt and I bought some Rem 40gr as well. After sighting in at 50, which only took 2 clicks, I moved out to 100. The Remington was not very good at 2.5 inches for 5 shots. The Hornady was not bad at all at just under 1 inch. The Nosler, however, was surpurb at 1/2 inch. I shot 4 5 shot groups with the Nosler and only one grouped bigger than a quarter, and that was after the wind really started gusting. I saved all of my brass but if she shoots this well with factory, I probably will just buy the factory loads.  The reality is that that is about as good as I can shoot. I wish that i could say that the rest of my range session went as well but my Savage 7-08 gave me heck and my KP-1 really gave me problems. Some times you just have to take the good with the bad. By the way, the deal that we worked out was 50 dollars for the handi and the ammo. I think that i got a pretty good deal. LOL

That's a heck of a deal even if it didn't shoot all that great, which wasn't the case, what a steal!! ;D

$50 for the ammo alone was a great deal!!!   (2 boxes of factory ammo right?)

$40 for the stock set was about right........

$85 for the barrel was a great deal............

$85 for the receiver was a good deal.........

so all in all I would say you owe him a BIG dinner and a couple of drinks for the GREAT deal!!!!....<><....:)

I thought it was bad 2 years ago when i paid $27 for 50 of the Hornets :o used a friends TC Contender to shoot some P-dogs and only shot about 20 rounds and gave him the rest .

With the prices of factory ammo going up and up you may want to re-think that loading thing .  ;) Nice shooting by the way .  ;D
