PHILADELPHIA — Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton would eliminate the federal mandatory five-year sentence for crack cocaine users as part of a $4 billion-a-year anti-crime initiative designed, in part, to steer many nonviolent offenders away from prison.
Her plan also would revive several programs started by her husband's administration, including federal funding of community-oriented prosecutors and police officers.
The New York senator outlined her proposal in a speech Friday in Philadelphia, a key city in her contest with Sen. Barack Obama for voters in Pennsylvania's April 22 presidential primary......
Clinton, in describing her anti-crime plan, said she hopes to reduce homicide rates and the amount of prison space occupied by nonviolent offenders, many of them drug users.....
Other provisions would target identity theft and online child exploitation. Clinton also renewed her call for reinstating the assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004.
Well, it is obvious that once again the Clintons are going after gun owners. The reinstatement bill she supports redefines what constitutes an assault weapon. Pelosi has sponsered this bill, which increases the action types, visual look alikes, and complete ban on semi autos having the capability for large capacity magazines. This would effect the Remington shotguns and rifles now commercially manufactured and include discontinued rifles like the Win 88 and 100, since it is possible to feed a large capacity magazine into the well. McCain is not the most ardent supporter of firearms ownership and possession, but it is apparent that Hillary is definitely not one.
