40-X Bolt Removal
« on: April 14, 2008, 04:52:18 PM »
Picked up a 40-X and can't get the bolt out. Are they different than a standard 700?

My 700 bolts come right out by pressing that button in front of the trigger, but the same button on the 40-X seems to be fixed. It won't budge.

Help please?

I do not have a 40X, but think they work the same as a model 700. How long has this gun set with out being cleaned? I had a 700 that set in the safe for several years. I had the same problem, the Hoppes that I put in the bore for storage ran down into the action and froze the bolt release up. The trigger was fine and the bolt was free. If this is the case take the action out of the stock and spray this area(bolt release/safety) very well with a spray cleaner  and work it until it is free. Re-lube with some quality stuff. I like Break Free or Rem Oil, but any quality lube will work, just do a light coating. Your problem should be fixed. BTW I do not use Hoppes any more, I think WD-40 will do the same thing over time, it will get gummy and freeze actions.

Thanks, I'll try that.
