Wood treatments

Are there any safe ways to treat wood to be weather resistant? I'm going to use bean poles and I also plan to make some cold frames so it would be nice to be able to protect the wood so that they will last several years. Linseed oil is the most natural weather seal I can think of,  Any ideas?

heres a receipt i got from the forest service. 1 part linseed. 1 part kerosene or diesel fuel. heat the mixture hot enough to melt 1 block of paraffin (canning section at grocery store) spray on with a pump sprayer the smell will go away in a day or so after three yearly treatments i had a rough board deck made out of sawmill lumber that still beads water. the wood will grey from u.v. but will not take water and rot. Did the same treatment to a log house built from salvaged logs out of a hundred year old warehouse and had the same results.

Thanks torpedoman, i was trying to find a  more natural wood preservative. Was at the store the other day and read the label on the linseed oil, and found it has chemicals added to it . Kerosene has the red dye in it, and who knows how many other chems.
HOWEVER.. good news!  I can get free wood. There is a place near me that gives away the wood from pallets. Big stuff too. 8ft long 4x4s  2x4s , and 1x pretty much whatever. So as long as pallet wood is untreated I 'll use it, and re-make stuff as it rots away. It'll be good practice for my son in learning woodworking. Just have to be extra careful to watch out for nails.
