Prairie Dogs and the wildlife commission
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:45:02 AM »
I got this in an e-mail today.  I had heard there was some news about prairie dogs.  There is a link to a petition opposing this possible action.  Mods, if this post is inappropriate, feel free to delete it.

All,

You may or may not be aware, but the Colorado Division of Wildlife Commission is considering a ban on all varmit hunting within the state of Colorado.

Here is a link to that petition that is coming before the commission:  http://wildlife.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyres/A1DEB481-3E53-4EDA-AAE7-6ED7A1870825/0/CitizenPetitionNoLiveTargets.pdf

This ban will not just be on public property, but will also include private property.  It would be effectively illegal for a rancher or a farmer to attempt to control
a prairie dog population on his private property, irregardless of the damage they have done or will do.  The writers of the petition (Forest Guardians) would
much rather see control being done with poisons and such.  As you all know, poisons kill everything, they are non-selective and are detrimental to the
natural environment that we live in.

As some of you might actually agree with this ban, keep this in mind.  It is not about prairie dogs, it is about our right to hunt in the great state of Colorado
that is truly at risk.  They have picked prairie dogs to start with as they can garner the much needed "middle ground people" to swing to the anti-hunter side
of things.  Once the door has been shut down on varmit hunting, it can more easily be shut down on all types of hunting, the hunting you and I enjoy each
fall and winter.

If you agree with me, then please sign this petition and make your voice heard.  Here is a link to the petition:

At the middle of this page will be a link for you to sign (please include first and last names, otherwise it will be considered an invalid name and throw out)
at the top of the page.

This list will then be presented to the Wildlife Commission at the next meeting in Gunnison.  There are several hunters that I know of attending this meeting
in person.

Thanks for your support.
