Bill Lets Florida Residents Keep Guns Locked in Their Cars While at Work
Tuesday, April 15, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —  Gov. Charlie Crist has signed a bill into law that allows Florida residents to keep guns locked in their cars at work.

The bill says businesses cannot prohibit employees or customers from keeping a legally owned gun locked inside their cars, as long as the owner has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Some sites — schools, prisons, nuclear power plants, military facilities and buildings that store explosives — would still be off limits.

The governor signed the bill Tuesday.

Hopefully many other States will follow the example set by Florida.  An employer who prevents an employee from having a firearms in his auto going to and from work, should be responsible for that mans welfare from the time he leaves home until his return.  The employee has no means to protect himself during this travel time to and from work.  The employer for personal reasons, is using his authority to dictate off hour terms to his employee without pay or protection.  If he does, then he should be responsible for the man's safety.  State laws that prevent abuse of emplorer/employee unilateral demands on firearms possession outside of work, need implemented in every State.

This is a great day here in Florida. We have to thank The "NRA", Marion Hammer, and of course Charlie Crist. It was a long battle about three years to get it through.
