That big old heavy steel bar in the stock....needed?
« on: April 25, 2008, 02:47:23 PM »

I went back 10 pages looking for the answer but with 402 pages in the archives I could be here all night.

Anyone ever pull the steel bar out of their stock and have bad results...like too much stress on it and crack it?

I'd like to cut down on the weight and I'll take the extra kick from the 30-06.

I am assuming you havea  450 or 45/70?

The bar is just to add weight and help with recoil in those big boomers.

Take it out and try, it won't hurt a thing.  (But you might decide you want it!)

The bar is in the 30-06 and 45-70 stocks, maybe some others. My SS 30-06 had one in it, but I never shot it with that stock set, just the lams.

I put that stock set on the TDC frame and barrel that I just put together for a 20ga turkey gun, the Limbsaver #10018 recoil pad works very well 3" turkey loads without the stock weight.

I have a 1" iron bar in my Buff Classic. I take it out in the .204 barrel configuration and add it in the 45/70 mode.

I took it out of my 30-06, shoots fine without it.

They're in some of the syn stock chamberings and they've also been reported in the 10ga shotgun and USHs, IIRC, no one has ever reported one being in a BC stock tho, mine didn't have one.

A few years ago for Buff Classic owners, H&R offered a change of the plastic parts to metal, and the 1" round stock weight for $70.00. I took advantage of it then.

That ended with the end of the BCSS unfortunately, H&R has never offered them in production BCs.
