Ruger Bisley Hunter repalcement front sights
« on: April 14, 2008, 04:29:34 AM »
I have a Bisley Hunter 44 and need to replace the front sight with a plain black post.  Clements does not make his replacement anymore.  Bowen will provide but it is over $85 for just the front sight with shipping.

Does anyone make a drop in replacement front sight for this gun?

Note I plan on getting the Bowen adjustable rear, but I do not like the current orange insert sight.

Thanks.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

I was not aware Clements quit making his replacement front sights for the Hunter. He put one on my Hunter a couple of years ago, along with the Bowen Target rear sight. Did he say why he quit making them? I thought about having him make me one with the gold bars.

I have one of his gold bar sights on sights on my 45.  But I had him do a full custom job on it.  He also installed the Bowen rear.  It's a great set up.  Sad to hear he isnt doing them any more.

I'd send it to Bowen's shop and have him do the front a rear at the same time.

I had a guy work on a 45 ACP a time ago and he said that before he'd do any serious internal work, he recommended getting the best sights I could afford. He stated,  "without them, the rest of the gun is just a lead slinger, no way to tell accuracy at all !"  I have come to appreciate his wisdom.

As a long-time match shooter I also prefer simple black post front sights.  I have had a few guns with ramps (brilliant at lighting up in sunlight and losing definition) and orange inserts (?????) and have re-shaped them all to posts.  I now have a mill I use to cut them but a mill is not necessarry, I have cut/ground many with a Dremel.  A little paint or cold-blue and you'll have the sight you need.

Hi,

Speaking of front sights,  Does anyone make a band to go on the front end with a drift adjustable sight??

Just a thought for fixed sight revolvers.
