I have a 5.5" stainless 22/45 with bull barrel, bought it new in March 04 and todate have a few thousand rounds thru it. The first few months were kinda tough with the pistol, it functioned great but accuract was not great. On my second range trip the pistol was still shooting patterns instead of groups, a close inspection revealed the front sight was loose. After I tightened it down, used blue lock-tite on the screw threads, the pistol actually started grouping.
I went thru about 10-12 different brands and types of ammo before I found what it really wanted to shoot. At 25 yards some brands would produce 3" groups while others put out 3/4" groups, so ammo is a BIG factor when it comes to rimfires.
I have a few suggestions for owners of Ruger pistols...
Take the factory sights and toss them in the trash. Get a set of VQ target sights and use those for open sight shooting. Install the scope rail and get a good optical scope if you really want to shoot small holes or hunt small game, use a red dot for plinking or plate shooting matches. Dot sights are not precise enough for consistant group shooting when you are looking for small holes, they will work great for most small game hunting needs.n
Take the factory hammer and toss it in the trash with the factory sights, order a new hammer from VQ. This will improve the tough factory trigger pull by about 50% and make shooting small groups seem easy.
