10mm/40S&W revolver?
« on: September 10, 2007, 08:56:44 PM »
Is there anyone out there making a 10mm or 40S&W revolver?  I'm interested in something like a Ruger GP100 or similar size S&W.

I think S&W did that for awhile. Can't recall the model number of it but think it was on the L-frame. I think Ruger did some Blackhawks with two cylinders in .38-40 and 10mm. Dunno about the DA Ruger tho.

With ether of these rounds you would have to use the 1/2 moon clip for a revolver. It was more practical to use them with .45 apc since there were gun out there shooting .45 Colt that you could use them in, but to produce a special revolver just for an apc round I don`t think would pay off.

What would really be awesome is a GP100 with a cartridge that was 10mm bullet, rimmed straight walled case, probably have to be a 5 shot to stay with a medium frame on the revolver.  Give it more power than the 10mm and load it with 200 grain bullets.

What do you think?

I have a 4&5/8" and a 5&1/2" barreled vaqueros with dual cylinders chambered in 38-40 and 40S&W.
You do not need moon clips with a single action revolver, you only use the clips with a double action revolver.

GOOD SHOOTING!

I own a S&W 610 6" 10mm and it requires moon clips to load the cylinder, 40S&W can be fired out of it today. The 610 is a "N" frame gun which is the same size frame as the model 29 44 mag. I have never seen a smaller frame D/A revolver in 10mm. Ruger made a small frame D/A revolver in 9mm.

Smith and Wesson have reissued the 610 N frame in 10mm/40.  4" and 6" or maybe 6.5".  Since 40 cal is hugely popular in autos and 10mm  seems on the upswing, it would seem a better choice than the 41 as a medium bore.  I own and love my 41's, but they aren't that popular and choices are limited with regards to guns and components.  Make an autorim and and you would have a practical and versatile bunch of options.  I use 10mm start loads in my 41x1" and its a peach in my Mountain Gun.  On thse rare days when I'm not blastin' big bears or cappin' suicide bombers in cement trucks, I think I have the power for most other applications.  I like the revolvers mainly 'cause I don't want to chase brass and the greater range of loads the wheelgun can handle.  But i would like the option of clips or not, a la 45acp/45 autorim.

I know that Clements and Bowen will both rechamber a smith 28 for 45acp or 10mm/40 s&w. Other than having a custom revolver and peace of mind knowing it has been worked over by the best in the business. You could probably get a 610 or 625 new cheaper..... win win situation
