New Vaquero Cylinder catch pin
« on: May 03, 2008, 10:46:25 AM »
HI,

I finally was able to completely take apart a new model Vaquero.  I like the pin method of holding the cylinder to align the chambers properly for loading / unloading.  Has anyone offered to convert older model vaqueros and blackhawk revolvers to the same pin style method.

It might be cheaper than $200. for a hammer and trigger kit.

It probably would have been cheaper for Ruger to just cut a half-cock notch on the hammer.  When properly done, that aligns the cylinder properly with the loading gate.  Of course in the 'new age' and all of the litigation, I can see why they would design the gun so you don't have to lower the hammer onto a live round after loading.  I'm sure a good smith could duplicate this pin on the older Vaqueros and Blackhawks if he could look at the way it is done on the new one.  Cheaper?  Maybe, maybe not.  44 Man
