Could have been deadly for sure. Do you think he had to change his underpants? Why would they not rig some kind of cable and sit inside the truck and release it? Dale

Bear don't usually turn around like that, Dale. Howeverrrrr...

I heard a story from a logger I worked with about one of his Dad's choker setters sticking a choker (cable snare used for picking up logs out away from the landing) on a sleeping grizzly's leg. The guy running the crane didn't know what he had until it was too late to let the bear down so it could get loose, so he brought it on in and dropped it on the landing. That bear hung out up there most of the day, madder than all blazes, looking for someone to turn into muddy mincemeat for the indignity.

This identical thing a happened about 25 years ago. I saw the pics on a TV show about bear attacks. In this case the Ranger shot and killed the bear with his 44mag.

Amazing, same exact situation.....

This reminds me of a video i think i still have on releasing a leopard in Africa.
The guy had an in side the cab release, opened the gate, the cat walked out jumped down turned and walked down the side of the truck, and jumped in the window the idiot had left about 3/4 down,
chewed on the guy for while then jump down and left like it was all in a days work. :o

This is the second time I have seen the exact same thing happen.  First one the trap was mounted on a trailer and bear turned around and pulled the ranger off onto the ground.  Can't remember if the ranger or his partner shot the bear, but the bear was killed.  These guys show they are not the brightest bulbs in the pack, by not having the trap tied down.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
