EXTREME CARRIAGE take a look
« on: April 30, 2008, 11:35:47 AM »
this is sure the most beautiful "carriage" I ever seen , or is it still called an carriage ??????  I dont know what to call it as it doesnt have any wheels . of course its for winter use .

its swedish , you can date it between 1697 - 1718 because of the kings monogram at the side ,  C XII  ( Charles the 12th )

have anyone any photos on more unusual or beautiful carriages I hope you will post them here .

Thanks for sharing that photo with us Dan.  It certainly is beautiful, although probably NOT for field use.  Looks like a presentation model for Royalty.  We are pretty sure the proper name would be "Ordnance Sleigh".

Best regards,

Tracy and Mike

With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets

well well well , I aint so sure of that .
I believe it is for field use , but I will check it with the army museum as soon as they open again .
at that time the swedish regents was so extremely influenced by anything french , that also was visible in the army , uniforms and choice of designs , colors and so , only swedish  in this is the colors blue and yellow . swedish flag has those colors . during that period of time sweden was an large country , finland , parts of russia , poland , germany , denmark and parts of norway , all that was sweden during that time . this country was involved in a lot of wars in the northern parts of europe , and I believe that sleigh was in normal field use during winter wars . but I will check it up   ;D

probably not owned by Santa .

if he had one of those , why should he still visit all houses and go down the chimneys ??

would be much more fun just sitting on the north pole and shooting the presents out all over the world  ;D ;D

dan, i have a small 1" bore cannon barrel, that i'm making the sled for. I wanted to have it done last Christmas, but sometimes other work gets in the way. Mainly want it for a Christmas decoration, plus i get snow here,so i can drag it outside and play. I really like different designs too, and will show the pics when it's all done. I saved your picture too!
