anybody ever used predator calls?

you ever use predator calls to get your bear?  im getting desperate...lol.  with the huge acorn drop this year it has stopped and slowed most baits to a near standstill in my area.

i have only had my baits hit about 7 times since season opened on sept 7th.

ive been hunting my butt off and varying the baits im hunting over so i dont over hunt one bait.  my season expires oct 11th.....so i need to do something

i read this.  is this accurate or just a sales tool for selling calls?

I have read quite a few articals about calling bears and every article says/has the same results....IT WORKS GREAT.

I have not tried this but always wanted to, They say thay a fawn in distress works great in the spring ( bears love fawn for lunch ) so I would think that it would work in the fall as might a rabbit in distress call.

Also I probably do this away from your bait at a new location as they might associate the bait site with danger already.

I have also read articles on using predator calls to hunt bear. Where I live we have a very large population of Blacks. Several times while out calling coyotes in late evening and at night where I know they are around, it makes me feel alittle uneasy. That is why when I am using a shotgun, #4 buck is the first shell and a slug is the second. Where I hunt, it is mountainous and the bears are in on you almost before you know it.
 I prefer that I hunt the bear, than the bear hunt me!

I have had Black Bears come to a number of different calls.  Usually while I was hunting something else(Turkey or varmint hunting).  You would be surprised at just how quiet a big Black Bear can be.  Especially if you are busy looking for Coyotes or Turkey's and the bear comes in from behind.   :shock:   Lawdog

Welcome to my world,we are not allowed to use baits,I have used calls once I have a bear located,they really like the fawn in distress call,but you have to locate the bear first so you can track thier advance,put your walkin shoes on and get onthe ground!

I'm leaving tuesday the 18th for four days of trying to call wolves and bears.  We had snow yesterday with more expected monday night.  That means any tracks I find should be real fresh.  So locating a bear should not be too hard.  I'll let you know how they respond.  I'll be using a Fox-Pro electronic caller, and a mouth blowen rabbit squaller.

There's an outfit makes a "cub squaller". Works.  Fawn distress works well.  NEED back up for sure. Squaller brought it in so fast, scared the H*#L outta me!!!  What a rush.....

Personally, the only way I would call bear is from a tree stand.. especially when you are in the thick.  Though scary, have heard some damn good things about how well they work.

It largely depends on the country you are in and what kind of animals you might be calling.  Calling is fun, but I don't really like doing it unless someone is with me.  In the areas I like to hunt, the following is a list of the animals that might be interested in a distress call; fox, coyote, black bear(s), mountain lion(s), wolf(s), and grizzly(s).  That is too much fun for one guy.  Until you see a bear come in to a call, foaming at the mouth, you don't know what you're made of.  You had better be wearing some sort of hearing amplifier and have a machine gun.
