Loading for max OAL
« on: April 27, 2008, 10:35:52 AM »
My 204 dies are supposed to be here on Wed :) While I've been waiting I made an OAL guage as per stickies. I cut a slot on a 204 case and stuck in a 35 grain Berger. By going out to the rifling and backing off just a little I only have about .08" of bullet in the case. I won't start out with that length but I might work out to it. I know the diameter of bullet rule of thumb but I don't see how thats possible if you load to the lands. What kind of problems will I have with that? Thanks Dave

That is the old H&R BS. Long throat less pressure. Not much you can do with that. Keep the OAL as long as possible. 0.080" is not to bad for a seating depth. Loading to the lands is ok too 5 thou into the lands is even better.

Thanks Fred. That's what I figured. Just trying to pick up some accuracy on my 204. Dave
