Any prospectors here in North Carolina
« on: March 24, 2008, 01:28:51 PM »
This state used to have several active mines in uptown Charlotte.  They even had a mint to make their own coins.  Reids (Reed's) gold mine was the place where years ago a large sparkly nugget that was found in the stream was used as a door stop for years until someone recognized it and it was on.

I went years ago with an elderly man and we found flakes in a few streams.   With GOLD being as high as it is right now, and Spring here I am thinking about giving it a try.  A dredge would save a ton of time though

In 2000 I lived in NC, and went panning for gold up  on 221 I  believe, near Marion. There is a place you can pan or dredge on the right as you head towards I-40. From up that way down towards Charlotte there is a band they call the gold cresent. Good luck.
