Folks who think they are high flaluting say CROP-PY. Whar that comes frum I can't imagine. Last time I looked CRAP was Crap not crop.

I call them crap-py just like it's spelled. I also laugh at folks who don't.

Specks

Yup forgot about that as it's been a day or two since I lived in FL. It was 1958 in fact. But that's what we called them and we caught them in the bonnets using bonnet worms. Do ya'll still do it that way?

Naw, use minnows on a cork and ,jigs on the edge ,specks have just now started moving into the shallows ,this is my favorite time to catch em, about 2-3 foot of eight pound test line on a 10ft. bream buster and your favorite jig and you are in for a blast. I have fished in Dead and Cresent Lake since I was a little boy the lakes have changed so much since then, but I do still catch a few specks. The lakes don't have the vegetation in them anymore, therefore fish population is not as good as it used to be, me and my dad are going to contact the state about vegitation dissapearence, it is a big deal down here when fish populations start dropping.

I've heard them called crappie the same way you pronounce it also slabs & paper mouths. The most common thing called is good eating. (Location) Pacific North West 50 miles west of Mt. St. Helen’s .
I was fishing on Silver Lake for crappies when Mt. St. Helen’s blew in 5/18/80 @8:35 am. I just kept right on fishing until I was ordered off the lake by a sheriff deputy.  I caught  my 1st  one of the year today! 4/9/05 hope they are moving back in in front of our cabins

Here in Indiana we call em crappie too and pronounce them as craw-pe. There are some old timers around here that still say crap-pe though. (But hey, to each their own) right!?!? :P  Some saw wash and some say warsh.

Farmers plant crops, not craps.  In Vegas, you shoot craps, not crops.  In SC, we catch crappies, not croppies.  What puzzles me is, Ol' Bill Dance, with that big "T" on his hat, catches croppies.  Funny, they look just like crappies to me.
