Just arrived in Idaho

just arrived in north pan handle of Idaho. Will start hunting tomorow for spot stalk bear. This is going to be good.

Will provide periodic reports thru out the week. Good cell coverage so I'm using my iPhone to post this.

day 1

No bear. Did see elk, moose, deer, bear tracks, wolf tracks.
Caught some fish in AM.

Day 2
Glassed a huge canyon in the high country from a vantage point just below the snow line. Saw moose, mule deer but no bear. One of the other hunters with us did spot a bear from their vantage point in this same canyon. His only chance was a 400yard shot cross caynon  but missed.

Day 3

Son shot a black bear at 150 yards. 270 win with 140 gr btsp. Perfect placement with bear slight quartering away. Took out the heart. Bear
15 yards and dropped. Saw at least 10 moose many mule deer & elk. Beutiful rugged country!

Day 4

Shot a red color phase bear and saw more moose, elk & mule deer. We glassed the bear from a mile 1/2 away from opposite side  of the canyon. We   
had plan our stalk and travese thru the bottom and cross a ragging river  ...... Climb back up the canyon. Took him at 175 yards thru the lungs with the 06. 150 gr btsp.

Ran out day light so the bear is hanging from a tree 15 ft off the ground. We will go back tomrorow to skin and bone it  and pack it out.

Day 5

Hiked back across the canyon. Skined, boned & packed her up for the long hike back. Saw a few moose, elk & mulies. Also walked up
on 2 fawns bed down. After diner went back out to help glass for another hunter. Spotted a nice bear but by the time they hiked over we lost
site of the bear. Weather was poor this afternoon with rain.

Day 6

The 3rd hunter at camp shot a color phase bear with less then one minuit of shooting time left.
This same hunter missed a shot at a bear earlier in the day. Only saw 2 mulies & a white tail all day.

This was a great rugged & hard 6 day hunt. Will come back for a mule deer or elk hunt. Back home in
the morning.

A few more pics from the trip.

1. View from the high country. It was beautiful.
2. That was Day 1 as noted above in my earlier posts. Glassing the clear cuts across the caynon. My Son with his Savage in 270 win.
3. That was Day 5 as noted in my earlier post. We had to do a hell hike back in to get my bear the next day. This pic is the cutting and droning to get the meat and hide.

#1. A view from the high country. Typical view we saw during the day.
#2. Typical clear cut areas we glassed across the caynons. Once we saw bear across here, we would then plan a stalk and then the hike from hell to get there.

About 20 or 30 miles north of Sandpoint. North central panhadle.

I should have known. I'm a Surveyor in Sandpoint. You must have been between Naples and Bonners Ferry, or thereabouts. Great country - and obviously some pretty fair hunting. Thanks for sharing the play by play and the pics.

I will be back in Idaho this coming August. The wife and I will be spending some time at a guest ranch outside Coeurdalene. Can't wait.
