Rossi singleshot bipod experiment

alright, well most you all know how rossi and H&Rs shoot best from a rest under the hinge (most anyway) and the rossi rifles barrel lug screw is the swivel as well and its too big for usual Harris type bipods.
So i decided to place a device on the receiver of my .223 Rossi, that accomodates a basic clamp on bipod. Harris bipods are too big to place on the reciever otherwise i'd have used that.
first attempt was a 3/4" dowel, but the bipod couldn't clamp properly to it cause the epoxy holding the dowel prevented it from fully clamping the dowel.
I got pictures eventually, once i'm home again i'm going to see what i can do to remedy this.
i think this idea of mine will work once perfected.

Looks interesting. What materials did you use?

How do you like the Rossi in .223? I have a 12 ga/.22LR matched pair and am considering getting another pair with a different shotgun gauge and a centerfire barrel this time.

I made up a lower Bi-Pod attachment for my H&R 223 with a lower mounted swivel stud, inline and closer to the receiver. With practice, It works great, though I give you fair warning... due to the closer mount it will be harder to hold still. Not impossible, but more difficult.
Yours is a lot closer to the receiver than mine ever was.
Solve one problem and create another difficulty I guess. Those clamp on Bi-Pods have no leveling adjustment , like Harris and alike, to solve scope CANT, unless you are shooting from a level position.
It's a lot of fun tinkering though ain't it? I look forward to your results.

I wanted to weld/steel epoxy/ or drill and tap for a swivel stud but Harris type bipods are too big at the base.
it is true that i don't have any adjustment to a clamp on bipod but there will be times when it'll be level or i can level the ground where it'll come in handy when shooting a ways. its either this or carry a bag rest around to take shots from.
could go real crazy and have a bipod the folds down like the French FAMAS assault rifle, which its just a mono pod basically on a pivot on either side of the rifle.

all it is is a 3/4" wooden dowel thats been adhered to the reciever with steel epoxy. not liquid epoxy but a stick of clay like epoxy you knead together. This issue i'm having now is there's too much epoxy and the bipod can't fully clamp onto the dowel. So either i'll have to clear the epoxy out for a space for the bipod or knock the whole thing off and re-do it with a larger dowel.

overall i like the .223 Rossi, my biggest dis like is the thin barrel, makes for much slower shooting. H&R .223s are thicker even as standard barrels. i;ve gotten 2-3" groups but i haven't reall found the ideal round yet.

Make yourself a set of shooting sticks or if you will be shooting prone use a back pack as a rest.  The BP also comes in handy for carrying extra ammo, water, snacks, jacket, etc.

I bought a bi-pod for my rossi .223hb,it is a harris style made by the company that bought outers. I can't recall the name now.....
