FORE!!!!
« on: May 10, 2008, 12:56:34 PM »

This came in the mail on Wednesday. Finally, I've found a real use for golf balls! ;D If anyone cares, the pattern is a 1/3 scale Confederate coehorn mortar. I haven't gotten to fire it yet and probably won't until next weekend at the earliest. Just got to gloat, as I haven't gotten my hands on any muzzleloading anything other than rifles in quite a while, the last time was getting my mitts on the lanyard on Max Caliber's M1841 about 10 years ago...

That's a nice little tube! I'm sure you will enjoy launching some golf balls with it.

You've got yourself a nice mortar there, now you won't have to replace those pesky divots on the long shots! ;D

I heard there is a game you can use those ball for. You hit the ball with some sort of bat into a hole somewhere, it sucks.

I love Robin Williams description of golf, though it does get a bit crass, so if swearing offends, don't bother:

Congrats on finding something better to do with a golf ball than hit it with a bent stick hundreds of yards away into a gopher hole, dodging trees, sand boxes, and pools, and then doing it 18 times.

Congrats on becoming the proud papa of such a cute bouncing baby gb mortar.
When I first started to hunt; I was told that I had to eat what I shot. I hope
you have lots of recipes for golf balls. I haven't found one that hits the palate
just right, yet. I guess that it is just an acquired taste, eh? Sort o'  like grits?
At least when I shoot my beercan mortar there is a familiar taste leftover.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

This gives all new meaning to the term "flame war." Groan, new rule no dueling, now kiss and make up.  (Why do I find that so funny!   ;D)

Sorry, Terry!!!! I wasn't trying to disparage grits. As a northwestern California kid(55yrs old) I have never had the pleasure of dining on grits; but, I am sure that they taste over the moon and beyond the stars better that a golf ball any day of the week. In the future I promise to respect your grits.
Respectfully yours,
Mark

I have it my "toy room," sitting right under my M1919A4 .30 caliber LMG on a WW2 tripod (demilled, but an excellent display piece). It almost looks like the MG's dog sitting under that tripod!  :D

No problem, I was just playing the fool (as usual).

I remember when fast-food restaurants around here started serving 'hash-browns'. First, they didn't look or taste anything like what we called hash-browns. And second, who ever heard of eating potatoes for breakfast?

If you order breakfast around here, be prepared to eat grits. Most places will give you the option of substituting hash-browns, but the grits are better than what you'll probably get. Hash-brown cooking skills are not a big priority.

And to keep this on-subject, grits also make a good 'filler' for powder charges. Coarser than corn meal and closer to the same consistency as black powder.

That's the plan for next weekend, assuming the weather is decent. As soon as I can get such photos, you WILL be seeing them here, I assure you!
