375 JDJ
« on: September 28, 2003, 02:32:52 AM »
I`m wondering of buying a barrel in .375 JDJ, but I`m a little afraid of how much recoil I have to fight with.  I have a Ruger Super Redhawk, 7,5", in .454 Casull.  Have anyone of you shot a TC with a 14" .375 JDJ and a RSH - so you can compare the recoil of the guns?

Recoil is very subjective, therefore it is hard to say how the recoil would affect you.  Mathematically, the .375JDJ will have more recoil than the .454.  However, the firearms are different in design and will recoil differently. My best advice is to try and find someone who has a .375JDJ you may shoot, or get the .375JDJ and just load down until you become accustomed to the recoil.

I have a 14 inch 375 jdj with the muzzle break.  It is a hand full but not as bad as i thought it would. With the break it pushes straight back in my hand with no muzzle climb. It kicked about the same as the 44 magnum barrel i had.
I have shot the 200 gr 225, 270, 300 GR cast bullets and even a round balls out of mine. It loves the lighter bullets.

If you want one get one and don't worry about the recoil

I have two SSK 375JDJ's for my Contender's, and had an Encore 454 12" when they first came out.   The 375's are alot more manageable than the 454 even though the Contender weighs about a pound less.   Part of that comes from the grips - Pachy Gripper's verses the factory wood Encore, and part due to the muzzle brakes on the 375's.   One of mine wears the SSK Arrestor brake, and the other the 4 slot Mag-Na-Port - the SSK brake does a much better job of the two.   The brakes really tame the torque, and that was the biggest nasty with the 454 Encore.   Its my guess that if the Redhawk is not a problem for you, the 375 will not be either.

I'll send you a PM.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I have not fired a .375 JDJ, but  have a .358 JDJ which I have fired about 200 times, and I previously owned a Ruger SRH .454 which I fired about 600 times.

The recoil of the two was, at least to me, very comparable.
