Buddy has a little older BDL, perfect shape, a little handling wear. .270  Leupold rings and 3x9 vari x I. He has a couple boxes of older Hornady ammo for it. He told me to offer him what was fair for both of us? What do you think?

$500 sounds fair.

$500 would be a bit more fair to buyer than seller and neither would be hurt at $550. I'd likely not go higher and for sure would try to get it at $500. Around here a dealer would likely put $425-$450 in it depending on condition and age as a trade in on a new rifle.

I'd jump all over $500, though I favor smooth barrels for scoped rifles.  If the rifle is in good condition, I think $500 is a fair price to pay.

You can get an ADL from WalMart, less the Remington Rebate for about $300.  Rings and Leupold scope (already sighted in) are worth the extra difference.  I think the older rifles are better as well.
