I got shot at one day by some kids trying to see if they could scare me with a 22. The bullet flew about 3 feet from my ear and of corse it took the law 3 hours and 4 phone calls to get here. Then whent they got here they didn't care and said I was hearing things.

Dale is there any local , state or federal agency that is responsible to save your life ? I can't think of any . This is not a cut to LEO's as they can't be ever where all the time . It may be the reason for the 2nd. amn. It is reason enough for me to arm self and family and resist any law that would stop me from doing so !
I had the misfortune to watch a man shoot another in Richmond Va. , 45 min. later the police showed up . One police officer offered that in this part of town they never knew if it was a shooting or a riot so they took their time and came in force . I couldn't fault him as that was the second shooting i saw in 2 weeks .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I just think it is wrong for them not to respond. There is also a recording after he hangs up with the woman he says I really don't give a s**t what happens to you. Dale

Dale they put in time for a pay check ( notice i did not use work ) not because they wish to help people , for the few like them most likely they view a call as an interruption of their time !
We are lucky people like them are not the norm .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I was a little bit skeptical when I first heard about this.  After reading the article it doesn't sound like she was in any immediate danger.  They say that her ex had threatened her.  Why would you call 911 just because someone made a threat when they aren't even there.  She is perfectly capable of going to the police station to file a report like anyone else.  The idea that because someone threatened you the police should drop everything and come to you house is ridiculous.  If there is an immediate danger I would feel differently.  Obviously the operator didn't handle it correctly, but why is she tying up the 911 system in the first place.  It is supposed to be for emergencies.  It would probably be an inconvenience if she had to go to the police station.  It really aggravates me when people expect everyone else to do everything for them.

I also like that she mentions that she was treated poorly because she it black.  I didn't see anything that he said that implied any kind of racial bias.  I guess that because the operator is white it must be a racial issue.  It seems a little racist to assume that because he was an idoit it must be because he's racist.  He coundn't just be an idoit.

Sorry for the rant but this kind of annoyed me.  I will admit that I don't know all the circumstances of the situation, but I would think that if her ex was beating on the door threatening to kill her, it would have been mentioned in the article.  Same thing if the operator would have said anything remotely racist.

You need to go back through and view the the video portion then. The man was inside her house and did threaten to kill her. Even on the audio to 911 she asked the bad guy to leave her house several times. This is recorded several times on the 911 audio. There is a link there at the beginning of my post. I suggest you you follow a few of them before making these comments. Dale

To protect and serve is written on their cars, truth is they are not responsible to protect you, Try suing because you were robbed, mugged or shot, and they weren't there to protect you and see how far you get with that. Don't really understand what the serve thing is about unless it is delivering warrants, they really don't serve the public. However one of  the politicians who disarmed Chicago has 24/7 protection at her house.

Sure it says :-

To protect and Serve.

It just doesn't say who they protect and serve. No I didn't bother listening or watching as it's a fact of life now that budgets are wasted or cut and the Police coverage is overstretched and at least here in the UK certain reports ignored as they don't match the points system. Crime is too high so they simply don't respond or report soem crimes to keep the figures down. The women who owns the locals kennels andfeed shop was battered and robbed by two eastern European Immigrants most likely illegals. The smashed her face with a baseball bat and robbed the till. It several hours for the Police to arrive or course they were long gone no follow ups have been done and if she phones the police to see what is happening she gets the run around. Trouble is she is English, so White and pays taxes and has no previous criminal record and no known drug problems which makes her non important for the points system. Now if she had a social worker assigned her or was Black, queer or an illegal immigrant then she would rate some time and attention . >:(

Its optional if they come....they don't have to come or do anything a citizen wants. They do what they want. They're officers of the court and protect the courts first and foremost.

....TM7

Maybe so in your area but here any call they get they're required to follow through and show up....even if it's your 3yr old (little son-of-a-gun ;) ) that called and hung up like mine did.
At least that's what the LEO informed me when he showed up at my house.

Being a 911 dispatcher, this is upsetting. Sound like the dispatcher has been relieved of duty. Unfortunately we don't get to hear the rest of the story, or know this callers past history, we just heart one side.

All together, very sad, and should have been handled differently regardless.

When Bob Corker ran for the Senate, one of the issues the democrats brought up was the fact that there was 30,000 unanswered 911 calls in Chattanooga during the time he was mayor.

Think about it.....30,000 unanswered 911 calls.....

My wife told me a story of an injured coworker who laid on the floor while a 911 call went unanswered.  One of the other gals called her husband who was a LEO and got him to radio for an emergency responder.

Don't depend on 911.....it might work, it might not.....

I've only called 911 once in my life and that was when a local child molester decided to hang himself in an old abandoned house on my property.  They had been looking for him for months. Luckily my nephew didn't find him.  It took one call.  It did take them an hour to get there.  The only annoying thing was they kept calling me back trying to keep me on my cellphone.  I finally told them if they wanted to continue the conversation, hurry up and get here, then I turned the cellphone off.   He had been hanging there for at least three days they said.  I cut him down and was scolded for it.  Turned out to be a huge hassle with questioning over several days.  Since then, I've torn the old house down....It was too much an attraction for problems.

All excellent reasons for fighting hard  to keep our 2nd amendment rights...and invoking the "castle law" in all states..even the states where the honest man's rights seem to come last..such as in NY...

Seems as if there has been law suits brought against various law departments and it seems that when all the smoke clears, the only real obligation a police or sheriffs department has is to TRY  to find out who killed or robbed or raped you.

Unfortunately that is true Beeman..Some folks still labor under the idea that the "law" can and will protect us ! We should not suffer under that illusion..due to the
various lawsuits over the years, all the police can do little more than "pick up the pieces" AFTER an event. Once in a while an LEO is fortunate enough to be on the
scene, but prevention is another matter.
I can recall a time when the local police could check out suspicious characters that just didn't seem to belong in what or where they were involved. Lawmen over
many years service developed a "nose" for potential trouble makers, and could check them out..identity etc. and often prevent crime before it happens. They could
spot a suspicious looking vehicle/driver combination, check it out and often nip crime in the bud !
Things have deteriorated to the point where socialist inclined politicians have pushed through laws that protect the "group" (Socialism) and declines to protect
the individual . Thus we have a situation where civil rights are tramping all over individual rights..
Curiously, our Bill of Rights seems to be aimed at individual rights..our forefathers wisely figured that if individual rights are protected, civil rights will take care of
  themselves !

The problem seems to be an excess of politicians with "mob mentality"..

I didn't open this video up. Too often there is bad things waiting to happen to your 'puter or spam riding on whatever is there. Also, I have so many blockers on my puter that rarely will it allow things to come thru without a lot of effort on my part. And so, sight unseen, I don't think the lady was in too much peril if she could spend 3 hours calling 911.  Was she immobile?  Tied up?  Did she live way out in the country?  Did she have a history of calls to 911?

I mean, if my house is on fire, I'm not gonna spend 3 hours calling the fire department before I try something else.

I'll admit my one and only call to 911 was a real laugher but how many lives and homes have been saved by 911?
