223 to ??????
« on: May 15, 2008, 08:19:21 AM »
I have I think 1 too many 223's and was wondering what my choices are (without re barreling) to re chamber to? I have seen where someone did the 225 are there any other options? My most recent purchase is a H&R 223 Ultra Varminter TH stock (Talo???? Edition).

You could just go full out and make a .220 Swift out of your longest slow twist barrel.  Larry

I too would go with the 220 Swift. I have one made from a 24" 1-12 Ultra barrel. It shoots great every time I have had it out and so far I haven't missed anything out to 300 yards I have shot at so far. Haven't gotten to shoot it farther than that yet this year, but soon I hope.

Instead of the .220 "Swooft" ......

How about the .22 Bench Rest?

Actually, I'm not a fan of the .22-250, although I really like the "Swift."  I hunted with the Swift one deer season and did quite well with it.

But the .22 BR ..... Just that I've always had a hankering to try the .22 BR (to be different) and scratch that itch.

Of course if the Handi barrel was only 22inches I might decide to do a rebore to a 6X45 or 6X47, or even one of the TCU rounds (.257 or .264).

Edit:  Before I did a .225 Winnie, I'd stick with the Swooft - as it is much more popular to find brass and probably offers a slightly bigger case capacity.  The .22 BR offers similar performance to the Swooft (and is every bit as good as the .22-250).
