buckmark scope
« on: March 22, 2008, 03:08:08 PM »
I just scoped my buckmark.  I like it except the base rubs the slide and causes several misfires since the slide does not close all the way.  If the screws are tight it cannot even move.  The original open sight base that it replaces sets on the barrel and a rear post not the slide.  This is the B-Square product and it sets on the slide and the barrel but not the rear post.  I have tried it with the screws loose and it fails 20% of the time, I loosened them off some more and put lock tite on them but have not had a chance to go back out.  Did I get a bad B-square product or have others experienced this.  I am thinking of ordering the Weigand base, but was wondering if it rested on the post or on the slide?  I have thought of using a small washer or two on the rear post and if need one or two where it rest on the barrel too so that I can get the screws tight and have a secure mount.

Yeah that really ought to help a lot. Last time I had a defective product from them I got no help at all from them. I found out they really don't have any customer service except in name only. My post on it is in the Product Section still I think. I swore off B-Square products for life.

This is the first product of there's I have bought.  The other one I mentioned was on back order at the time and I thought at the time that B-square was not as nice from other products I have looked at but really new very little about either company and thought a base is a base and it is a .22 so doesn't need to hold up to a whole lot.  Guess, I was wrong.  I did not mention earlier but the metal is soft too, the rings left a press mark on them.  I guess I will give them a chance to fix it but the next order I place I will most like order the other base.  It was the same price too.  If you are going to make something cheap you should at least price it accordingly.  I have been so fed up with customer service in the past ( in general) I did not even want to mess with them but will give them a shot.

Well went to the range this morning.  Just as I had thought No failures but the scope is loose now.  Surprisingly it is shooting pretty good for the base being loose. Every time I set it down and picked it back up my zero moved. I have a new thought for fixing it, instead of dishing out another 30 buck to try a different base, I want to take a very small amount of metal off the bottom of the base where it meets the slide.  This should allow me to get the screws tight, it will rest on the rear post as it should and the slide will work.  How is the best way to do this?  Steel wool? File? We are talking about the thickness of 3-4 pieces of paper is what is needed to allow it to rest on the rear post.  I want it to look good too.  If I mess it up is not too big of a deal since it doesn't work as is.  Best i can tell it is aluminum.  It will be a few days before I will have a good chance to do it so if no response from them I will give it a go.

Like I said, give them a call and see what they will do.  If they make it right...great.  If not, don't trade with them again.  BTW,  I have their product mounted on .22's and airguns and all work well...ZERO problems.

If you want to use a short rail on the Buck Mark, try a Tactical Solutions rail.  They are solid underneath where needed.  The B-Square I had several years ago was a simple extrusion cut to length.  It was hollow - looked like a "C" channel) where the screw went through it.  That made it "springy" and it kept working loose regardless of what I tried...........chim

Thanks for your help guys.  I agree with your comments on the b-squared mount.  I ordered the Weigand base and it is outstanding.  Every bit of the bottom matches the factory cut outs and it is stiff.  It also extends over the barrel a little bit allowing for a little bit more forward mount which I like.  No help from the b-sqaure folks as of yet.  I read over on rimfire central that the tactical solutions or the weigand are the ones to get and midway had the weigand on sale for 25 bucks so figured that was less hassle than trying to get the other one to work and after comparing the two side by side there is no reason I will ever by another b-square product, it is like comparing something I made to a master gunsmiths work.  The mount is solid and rest on the right parts just as the factory original did, the slide works with no failures just as it should and beside being out thirty bucks, I couldn't be happier.

Update:
I did finally hear from the B-square folks.  They wanted me to shim it up with aluminum foil.  This might just work but am much happier with the Weigand mount and will trust it before I will the B-square rig.

I also have the Weigand rail mounted on my Buckmark 22lr pistol...I wouldn't change it out for anything.  It is rock solid all the way just like all the Weigand products.  If I want a product and there are several manufacturers that manufacture it along with Weigand, he get's the nod every time.  His products are just that good...Can you tell that I am a satisfied customer? LOL

Here is a pic of my Buckmark with the Weigand scope rail as well as Weaver rings and a Simmons red dot site:

Mine has been great also no complaints from me.  I have not done this yet but read on another forum that when cleaning is needed to leave the front screw in and just remove the rear and take the barrel off and you will not have to adjust the scope again.  Very please with this product and will be looking to them in my mount needs.
