Author Topic: Tested the Triple 7 Pellets Today... (Read 863 times)

Well I asked earlier in the week, bought the pellets a couple of nights ago and tested today. Here is my thoughts on comparing the Triple 7 pellets to the Pyrodex pellets in my Encore, 100 gr loads.

Accuracy seemed as good as the Pyrodex. Hard to check accuracy real well since I do not have a scope on the gun anymore.

Accuracy and ease of loading held up for 5 shots before the first cleaning.

Gun stayed much cleaner and did seem to clean easier after the day of shooting.

My hands did not stink!!!!!!!!

POI moved about 1" left and 1/2" low at 50 yards, easy to fix.

My only complaint, that ring that forms on the bottom of the barrel is much worse than with Pyrodex. After the 5th shot I cleaned the barrel and the ring seemed to come back worse on the next shot. Cleaned again after the 7th shot and had to scub to get rid of the ring and it again got very bad after the second shot after cleaning to the point of almost being impossible to load. This ring also took a lot of scrubbing to get out when cleaning the gun at the end of the day.

I still have not made up my mind for sure. That ring was terrrible but everything else was pretty good. Except for the lack of stink, that was great. Guess I will keep shooting them until they are gone and then make up my mind on what to buy the next time.

I use the rusty duck between shots and the ring just disolves nicely.

Is this the same bullsey from gunbroker.com?

Which type of Encore breech plug are you using?

I have some 777 I am going to try shortly. You seem to indicate: 1) there are more than one type of Encore breech plug, and 2) that one of then would be better for 777 than the other. Please advise.

I need some more description on that breech plug to Randy. Someone else told me once that there were two different kinds. Don't know what kind I have or what difference it makes. Please provide more info.

The first were mostly ( on the powder end, then the went to a pretty much | on the powder end, and now there is a third that is sort of a mix of the two and I don't have a key for that. :grin:

Now we are getting somewhere. Mine is one of the first which has a ( on the end. What difference does it make? Please tell me it does something magical to get rid of that nasty powder ring that makes the bullet hard to seat.

If it does, I'm not aware of it. I know Randy has talked directly to the folks at T/C about the why's of the changes. Going from ( to | was mainly to accomodate pellets by giving them a more solid support and thereby keep folks from crushing them so easily. The new compromise one is supposed to be the best of both worlds.

Mine is the ( type and up to this point has been claimed to be the better one for reducing the crud. I would hate to use my flat-faced spare if that is the case.
