Comaparision of brass

 Looking at the cost of new brass it is cheaper to buy new ammunition for the brass and then reload later.  I'm looking at buying some 38 special and 380 ammo for this reason.  I would like some opinions on UMC, S&B, fiochi, magtech and blazer brass.  I have read that the primer pockets  are shallow on S&B and magtech's brass is paper thin.  I'm hoping the umc is the same as regular remington when it comes to the brass.  Any opinions or suggestions welcomed.

Unless your loading +P loads the cheapest way is to buy once fired range brass for both and load cast bullets , as for the UMC it seems to do well for loading , I'm not a big fan of either the Blazer or the S&B , too much inconsistency in the cases for me .

I use Speer, WW, and Remington brass. Of those three the Remington is the least consistent in weight but weigh more on the average than the other two. Speer and WW both seem very close in weight and the consistency of weight with an average of 80% falling into the mean weight. It isn't a big deal to most shooters but I always separate brass by weight for more consistency in group size.

I agree with Stimpy. I`ve bought alot of it for 2 or 3 cents ea. I`m sure it is higher now, but it would still be alot cheaper than new brass and far cheaper than buying new ammo for brass.

I use the Blazer in .45 acp and the UMC in .223.Have been loading them for sometime with no problems at all..............Rick

  Isn't that Blazer "brass" made of Aluminum and Berdan primed??

Some yes but not all is. Some uses brass that is reloadable.

I have to disagree about the Magtech (Headstamp CBC) brass.  I have been reloading it for about a year now (I found a great deal on a couple of thousand .223 rounds), and love it.

  I asked because I have 3 boxes of blazer 25 auto on the shelf. It IS a few years old though!
