With the 1 in 12 twist you should be able to shoot up to the 55 grain stuff , the little 40 gr Hornet bullets should be a good choice to start also look at some of the .224 cast bullets and make some plunking loads if you load for it .

With the cost of factory ammo you can't afford to not load this little round , a pound of powder will go a loooong way .  ;) my 218 Bee does well with the 40 and 45 grain pills .

Try lil gun and 35 grain vmaxes. Myself and quite a few others here have had very good luck with this combination.

I'm gettin a little ansie waiting for Canon 6 to come visit.  Seems he's got a hornet in his bonnet and is bringing it to me! :D  LilGun has become a favorite powder for several cartridges for me.  Real tuff to beat in high power 45 Colt and King of the Hill  for the 357 mag and Hornet.  Good to here about the 35 V-max, always had good luck with Hornady products, they just plain work and usually better price to boot.  Don't know why, but LilGun was a dollar a pound cheaper than H-110 last week.  DP.

I've had better luck with 40 grain over 35 grain( it's been a while but I think they were V-Max) because I had fewer crushed case necks with the bevel base on the 40 grain bullets.  As you probably already know, Hornet brass is quite thin.  Lil'Gun works well, but so does 1680.

The Nosler 40 BT and Hornady 40 V-MAX are to my mind the best choices. You can push them almost the same velocity as the 35s but they are much more streamlined and have much higher BC for better down range performance. They are my pick for the Hornet.
