Price Check on Target Loads
« on: June 14, 2009, 02:47:18 PM »
In central IL, I'm still paying $54/case for Diana 12 ga 2 3/4" with 7.5 or 8 shot.  Winchester and Remington 100 rd value packs are around $23 at the local Wal-Mart.  I was wondering where prices are elsewhere.  Lead shot has come down from $55 per 25 lb bag to about $27/bag, but I havent seen any real drop in loaded ammo price.  Estate brand cartriges are occasionally on sale for 4.75/box, but they never last long.  Unfortunately, its still cheaper to buy the Dianas than reload my own 12 ga shells with the price of powder and primers like they are.

Prolly not the only one but for sure I've not bought any this year and honestly haven't even looked at the prices.

$54 a case is a good price.  I am fortunate in that I purchased what I need before the run on all things firearms...

While lead has recently come down, the ammunition may have been loaded when component prices were high....our wally worlds prices are about the same for the federal 4 packs.  I buy at Dick's when I need some 12 when they have the sale and coupon/rebate discount going on - gets the price down to 5/box.   It is cheaper to reload - especially using a 7/8 oz. load with reclaimed shot - box prices start coming in around 3.25/box that way

I use WSF and Green Dot for my 12 ga. loads.  I havent seen much of those powders in stock anywhere, but the local shop has plenty of the target loads in stock.  Go figure...  Anyway, last time I did the math, it was about the same price for me to reload as it is to buy the loaded ammo.

The cheapest thing I have found is a 1oz load from federal at some Wal Mart stores. These are not the 100 packs, they are singles 49.99 a case tax included. They come in 71/2 and 8 shot and are in a blue box.I work all over northern il and check quite a few and not all have them and some say they are seasonal or up to that store manager.Shoot great for the price if you can find them.

The price of shot went down, so I reload.
