Well, yesterday I received into my hot little hands from Midsouth Shooters Supply some Hornady One-Shot, (the non-hazardous type); a LEE Universal Decapping Die; & the Lyman M-Expander Die. I've had a chance to use all three & they all work GREAT! Thanx guys! jd45

Jd: Nope, there is no such thing as a 47-70. When I typed in my Username I made a booboo. It should have been 45-70. Once it is in, it can't be changed unless" da big Boss" can do it

I've been using Vaseline and Q-Tips for case lube and neck lube for years and have had no bad stories to tell. A little Vaseline on a roll pad will lube your case body. A Q-Tip with a bit on one end will lube the inside of a case neck just fine. The dry end of a Q-Tip will wipe any residue out of the neck after resizing. Yeah, this IS another use for the stuff. And talk about cheap!!!

Moot point since 45-70 has been taken by another member years ago, but you have the option of an alternate name to be displayed, see Account Related Settings in your profile.

47-70, thanx for enlightening me on the user name & the cast bullet in MG barrels. You know, that "catridge" in your avitar does look like a .45-70, albeit a modern one. If you ever have a chance to get your hands on a balloon-head "catridge" w/lead bullet from the 1870's, it'd be neat to install that one in the avitar, for the nostalgia, ya know? Just a suggestion. Thanx.
EMMETT, thanx for the suggestion about Vaseline. Sounds like it'll work real good! jd45

years ago I was told the best cast bullet lube was 50/50 vaseline/beeswax. never did find out if it was by weight or volume.

SA : If this is an old recipe I would think it was a Volume measurement, just my guess though

45-70 Govt, is that statement at the bottom of your posts that says, "There is no substitute for Mass", something related to physics, or does it refer to a member of the faithful attending the Sunday morning service at the local R.C. church, as I did as a child? Just curious, & thanx, jd45

  LOL !!
Re Mass: that has nothing to do with Religion. Given the choice I prefer a good  amount of mass with low to moderate velocity.

I have been switching to cast bullets as well although the cost of commercial cast bullets isn't a lot less then the normal jacketed variety these days some are even cheaper. In Canada I can get Remington bulk 300 gr JHP for less then cast bullets cost me. The savings are in the powder for me. The last lb of Varget was 44 bucks and I need about twice as much of that as 2400 in the same application.

45-70Govt, I have to say I was absolutely STAGGERED by your price quote for that pound of Varget.........It's more than twice what I'd pay at Cabelas down here. You have my sympathy..........& thanx for clearing up that matter of Mass, (grin) jd45
