7MM-08 BRASS QUESTION?
« on: June 01, 2008, 09:34:43 AM »
I think it would work but let me ask can 308 brass be trimmed and run threw a 7mm-08 resizing die? and used in the 7-08

Yes, just check the neck thickness. Necks tend to thicken as you neck down from a larger size but I doubt you would have any concerns just going from 30 to 28 caliber. Several years ago I used to make my 25-06 brass from 30-06 cases.

GOOD SHOOTING!

If you go that route, you might want to wait till you neck the cases down and then trim them.  But with 7mm-08 brass everywhere around, the only reason to do so would be if you are sitting on a bunch of 308 brass.  DP.

You can also neck up .243 brass.  If you do the .308 brass, first run it through the bullet seater die witht teh seater plug removed, then through the sizing die.  The bullet seater die is enough larger than the sizing that you will not crush as many cases.  Trim after everything is done.  LarryLarry

I preferred to make 7-08 from .243 because it is a longer case.  Just ran through the 7-08 die then trim to length.   I found that 308 cases came out short, but usable, but they would stretch after a couple of firings to length.  Course I had a 308 but had traded the 243, so at that point in time, they were more expendable.  That was back before 7-08 brass was readily available.  I used 140 and 145 grain bullets, as that was about all that was available 20 years ago,   But I'm thinking a 120 or so Barnes might be just the ticket now.  The 788 I had had a pretty tight chamber, but shot real well.
Will that bow kill an elk?     Sure.....but arrows are much more effective.
