Ruger SR9 RECALL
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:08:09 AM »
FYI- Ruger has issued a recall for all SR9's with serial numbers starting with 330-XXXXX. Ruger website has instructions. www. ruger.com

is, as a last resort, to protect themselves

As a long time Ruger lover, I have to say that I am totally disappointed with them on the SR9!  BIG TIME!  How does a company ship out 25 thousand pistols where you can't shoot 9mm FMJ with out shaving the tips off of them?  Impossible to load!  After contacting Ruger they send a Lapua  quick loader which doesn't correct the problem.  Then... Ruger comes out with a new magazine which has a smaller magazine catch hole that doesn't rip into the tips of FMJ bullets.  To top this fiasco off, the current brainiacs at Ruger said they have a redesigned magazine catch that you can send the gun back in (your dime and spend $6.00 for the replacement part).  In this way you can shoot either the old or newer magazines.   Now that won't get Ruger in a lawsuit in itself.  They should have recalled these pistols on their dime.   It's their fault, not ours.  But BOY......they jump at accidental discharge pistols.  Drop the gun in the kitchen and take out Grannie!  Nice, considering the fiascoes noted above.  Nope never again and I am sorry.  Sold it.  I bought a CZ-75B stainless (CZ-USA).  Worked like Superman right out of the box.  Barrel, frame and slide all serialized.  Tight and slick.  A better grip than the SR9.  A Quality assurance slip with a "real" signature and test target comes with it.  The most accurate pistol next to my Springfield Loaded Target 1911-A1 .45.   Nope, I am sorry to say Ruger has lost a long time customer.   Now I hear their new .380 pistol is flawed as well.  Go figure.  Trial and error engineering should have been accomplished prior to release.   Boy...I am glad I found the CZ-75B.   What a difference.

Navylawdog (I like that one-I am retired Navy and now a base cop-LOL).  Anyway, go to WWW.Rugerforum.com.  Lots of good stuff there as well as this forum.  Don't get me wrong.  I still like Ruger, but I will NEVER buy an auto pistol from them after the SR9 fiasco!  I went to the range today with my new CZ-75B stainless 9mm.  It is the best 9mm I ever shot.  It beats the SIG 226 I carry for duty hands down.  So the 1911 and the CZ-75B are my two favorite weapons.  Where are you stationed?

Handled one in the store--just felt like a piece of junk from the get go.

Bad trigger(REALLY BAD!!) and the safety would grab my thumb when the slide was racked.

Have a Ruger .22 auto---but pretty much Glock's and Colt's for anything else.

Here's the link from the Ruger website:

Ruger SR9 recall link

Ruger is also going to send out an extra magazine as a thank you for the customers patience and cooperation in this matter.  I still won't buy one...I already have my tupperware fix.
