You are right, I did say that. That is for hunting Moose, where I want it dropped in it's tracks. Or when we may run into a Grizzly unexpectedly. When other people are there I too carry a .338 Win Mag. I will not let anyone come to my camp with anything less than a .338 Win Mag. I've had too many others fail when the chips were down. But when I am out by myself, it's a totally different ballgame.
I know my capabilities, and my shortfalls. I am colorblind, heard of hearing, I have four herniated disk, coronary heart disease, a failed heart by-pass, I'm overweight, I have arthritis, and I was diagnosed with diabetes last month. But I do a two hour workout with weights every other day when I'm at home, (including Saturday and Sunday) I then ride 10 miles on a stationary bike at the end of each workout. The days I don't do the workouts I go in and walk 30 minutes on a treadmill at 10% grade at 2.5mph, then another 10 miles on the bike. Also I can place all of my shots in a six inch pie plate, (the size of a bears heart) from 50 to 500 yards, with either my Handi or my TCR. Yes my TCR in 30-06 will be in the Camper just in case I need a second gun.
In other words I have confidence in myself and my capabilities that I don't have in others. And I love being out by myself. My wife says I am going to become another statistic, maybe so, but at least I will go out doing what I love to do best. HUNTING If I get a Grizzly, that's great. If I don't get a bear, that's OK too. I know tomorrow night I will be dinning on fresh Lake Trout. The ice is still on the lakes and ponds yet. Around the edges the ice has melted off and there is a strip between shore and the ice pack. Any kind of fly or spinner cast into that ice free area will be sucked up immediately.
And I don't even own a .300 Win Mag. Don't like the cartridge, don't see it doing anything a 30-06 can't do.
