forend hanger choices
« on: June 01, 2008, 04:18:40 PM »
So is there a difference between the Pachmyr, Bullberry, and Stratton forend hangers? I have a Pachmyr pistol forend and I'm curious if I bought a Bullberry barrel would it work with that forend, or would I need to get a new one?

I'm not late, I'm early for tomorrow.

Keep honking, that should fix everything.

You might need to flip the hanger bar over (Bullberry's) but it will work for the Pachmayr forend.

I did some filing, dremeling and cutting and got my pachmayr forend to have plenty of clearance............I have some small washers where the screws mount...............and it's about as free-floated as you get on one of these !! You can't tell looking at the gun from the side..............just from the front !

Got it done and shooting good.............and now I am going to laminated grips with a hangar bar !! LOL

The short Pachy bars for the early barrels with just one standoff does not provide a very secure mount to float the forend off the barrel.   Their longer bars for barrels with two standoffs is secure, but doesn't float the forend without shims and reworking the forend wings.

The Bullberry & Stratton hangers are similar (Stratton learned the bis as part of the Bullberry crew before switching to VVCG and going on his own later when it went out of business).   Once mounted on the barrel they were originally designed to securely "float" the custom wood forends off the barrel while using a single mounting screw for the forend.   There are two versions of hangers based on barrel standoff spacing to work on both handgun and carbine configurations, but not a version for the early one standoff barrels.   To use these hangers with the Pachy forends the hanger needs to be both flipped end for end and rotated 180 degrees from how it's mounted for custom wood (flipping it changes the placement of the mounting hole, rotating it stands the forend off the barrel further).   Still doesn't completely float the Pachy forend without shims though, and reworking the forends wings that drag on the frame.

The after market hangers are more versatile than the Pachy bars in that they will securely mount custom wood, Pachy's and some early factory forends to two standoff barrels.

So what to do with an early, longer one standoff factory barrel you want a secure, floated forend on?    Live with it as is, trade it off for a two standoff barrel or add standoffs.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
